INTRODUCTION TO PERSONALITY PSYCHOMETRY

Personality is a complex topic that has been investigated by scientists for decades.

Psychometry is the measurement of psychological traits, states, patterns, and other mental features in humans. At PersonaliType, we have focused on the traits that influence how we approach living in the world, our interpersonal dealings, and how we experience and respond to different situations based on these predispositions. This is a basic definition of the domain of personality. It is distinct from attitudes, motivations, intelligence, and other areas of mental life. To the extent that patterns emerge in the way people respond to our inventories, we can refer to these as `personality types.` Some psychometrists like to reduce the number of types to a very small, finite, manageable set, but we have evidence that the human personality spectrum is much broader, approaching perhaps thousands of distinct combinations.   Read more...

FLOW PSYCHOMETRY — A NEW METHOD IN AN OLD SCIENCE

   Better data. Better results.

Currently, the most robust and reliable theories of personality are built on data showing that there are five main personality Dimensions. These theories subscribe to what is often called the "Big Five Model" or the "Five Factor Model" of personality. Generally, six sub-dimensions, or Facets, are observed for each Dimension. This model has been built on data that has been gathered for decades by self-report, meaning that the respondents have a free hand to be honest or not. Internal examination of the responses has revealed the general structure of how humans report their sense of their feelings and behavior. PersonaliType has introduced a new method that cannot be tricked or fooled, that we call Flow PsychometryTM. We use a marking technique to generate metadata that feeds back on the way we interpret response sets, and feeds forward on the way we select trait identifiers in the first place.   Read more...
